Behavioral Care Management

UBA provides behavioral care management for over 200,000 people under contracts with health plans, hospitals and behavioral care provider groups. In particular, UBA provides all behavioral care management for the Montefiore Contract Management Organization (CMO).

The aim of UBA's behavioral care management program is to ensure that behavioral health care provided to covered members is easily accessible, coordinated, appropriate, effective and efficient. Care management activities include utilization management, quality management, case management, claims processing, and provider and member services.

UBA-contracted health plans offer behavioral health benefits including inpatient and outpatient mental health and substance abuse care. Access to care is easy and does not require a written referral from the Primary Care Physician. Members can call UBA’s toll-free referral line:


We are available 24-hours/ day all year round. UBA will arrange urgent or emergent care for members. A licensed UBA staff clinician is on call 24 hours a day, 7 days per week. We will answer all questions and coordinate behavioral care at all levels of care. We have a large network of behavioral care providers available to meet members’ clinical needs. These calls are confidential. UBA has stringent policies to protect patient privacy, and we comply with all HIPAA regulations.

UBA is a provider-driven behavioral management services organization. Excellence in customer service and quality assurance is our goal. As a NYS certified utilization review organization, UBA far exceeds NYS averages for all HEDIS quality measures: Outpatient Appointments Kept Post-Hospital Discharge (7 and 30 days), Telephonic Access.
