Which health insurance plans are managed by UBA?
UBA manages the behavioral care services to members who have a Montefiore Medical Center Primary Care Physician and the following insurances:

  • HIP/Emblem, Medicare, Commercial, Medicaid, Family Health Plus and Child Health Plus
  • Oxford Medicare
  • HealthNet Commercial
  • HealthFirst Medicare, Commercial, Medicaid, Family Health Plus and Child Health Plus


Does a member managed by UBA need a PCP referral for access to mental health or substance abuse treatment?
No, this is not a requirement. No referral is needed to access mental health services. Patients or their representatives can self-refer.


How can I find the right mental health provider for services that I need?
The best way to access mental health services is to call the toll-free UBA number (800-401-4822) directly. UBA managers are available to answer any questions you may have and will provide information about providers in your area that have available practice hours to meet your needs.


Can UBA direct me to specialists in behavioral care that can offer services to a variety of age groups like children, teenagers, or the elderly?
Yes. UBA managers are aware that patients have particular needs and can provide information on specialists that provide specialized behavioral care services to all age groups.


What do I do if I need help with an addiction or substance abuse problem?
UBA managers can help you with quick access to providers who specialize in the treatment of addiction or substance misuse problems. We have access to a network of providers that can help you with both inpatient and outpatient treatment of these issues.

 
Who do I contact if I have a behavioral care need that is an emergency situation or is urgent
?
In urgent situations, a member can call the UBA 800 number and speak directly with a licensed behavioral care clinical manager. That clinical manager will help direct a patient to emergency care (same day) or if urgent care is needed, to a provider who is available in 24 to 48 hours.

In emergency situations, a UBA clinician-on-call is available after hours to provide access 24 hours a day, 7 days a week through the 800-401-4822 number.


Can I get help for a referral for a family member if they are not able to call themselves?
Yes. Many times it is the family members that makes a call for a person suffering from mental illness are who unable to make a call themselves. UBA staff is available to assist family caretakers with a provider referral.


How do I know what my mental health benefits are?
In most instances, UBA staff answering the 800 number will be able to tell you about your health plan benefit and what is covered. Most health plans do not have limitations for mental health benefits as these benefits are primarily based upon medical necessity. All health distribute an information handbook about benefits and if you have specific benefit policy questions, your health plan may be the best place to call.
